| Nov. 8, 1974, marked the end of a dream and the beginning of a reality.
It was the day Martin Paving became incorporated with the goal of meeting
a need in the community for a paving contractor which would do the very
best job possible without shortcuts in workmanship and quality. It
was this goal that inspired the company motto, "We Can Do It Better Because
We Care."
The operation began with Leon Martin as salesman and foreman of the
paving crew and Clara Martin handling the office duties in their home.
Within a year, they were joined by their three sons, Jerold, Leon Roy,
and Galen, who brought with them not only experience in the field but a
desire to carry out the company's goal of "going the extra
mile" to be sure the customer receives the best possible service.
After outgrowing rented quarters in Ephrata, the company moved to a
renovated building in Brickerville, eventually outgrowing this facility
also. In order to accommodate more equipment as well as a work force
of over 50 employees, a new building was erected in 1987 in Brickerville.
The Martins have seen tremendous growth over the last 35 years.
In 1987, Martin Road Oil branched off. Martin Road Oil delivers and
places road oil on surfaces that don't necessarily require a coat of asphalt.
They use this procedure on large areas which get heavy use, such as farmers'
lanes, parking areas, and municipal roads. This operation has grown
to include a computerized chip spreader and oil distributor to assure accuracy
in distribution of various oils and stone.
The company has not lost sight of its goal to offer the best paving
job available, and to do this, there are four full-time crews covering
the gamut from small residential jobs to parking lots to entire developments
and on to township roads, as well as prequalification to do state work.
This is truly "Paving with a Promise" - a promise that you will get the best
possible job.
The newest expansion is Martin Reclamation. Used on roads and
parking lots, the Terex RS600 Reclaimer/Stabilizer pulverizes asphalt,
mixes it with existing stone base, and re-deposits it as a solid base
for a new application of asphalt. It is an economically and environmentally
sound operation which appeals to many townships and businesses which need
to maintain large parking areas.
Certainly, "The Lord has done great things for us, whereof we are glad."
(Psalm 126:3)
